My best tester for soft fabrics is my husband Jo. When it comes to having soft, comfortable fabrics, he is very picky and refuses to wear anything that feels scratchy, stiff, or heavy.

I have been testing lots of fashion brands that claim to be the most comfortable and am delighted to report 4 brands (for women and men) that meet my husband’s “soft” and my eco-safe demands.

#4- MARINE LAYER

After his girlfriend threw away his old favorite t-shirt, the San Francisco founder of Marine Layer decide to create a new tee that felt just as broken in, comfortable, and absurdly soft as his old one. Marine Layer has expanded into a full clothing collection with 44 brick-and-mortar stores, developed 100 different fabrics, and recycled over 500,000 tee shirts with their ReSpun program.

#3 FAHERTY

I scored mega points with my husband when I gifted him with the Faherty cloud cotton teeshirt made from organic cotton and beech tree cellulose (modal) and an equally soft raglan “baseball” sweatshirt. Aside from the incredible softness of their fabrics, California-based Faherty is on the leading edge of environmentally sustainable companies. They use only organic cotton grown without pesticides from non-GMO seeds emitting 42% less carbon and using 91% less water. Recycled polyester, linen, and hemp are often blended into the fabrics as well. Faherty has also omitted the use of plastic in their packaging.

Vuori is my favorite line of durable, premium performance modern apparel that takes you from the gym to a stylish lunch with friends. The fabrics, especially the Dreamknit stretch fabric made from 89% recycled polyester and 11% elastane, are not only so light and soft you hardly feel them on they hold their shape through multiple wearings and washings.
